Free master key system designer

Add your doors, pick your sub-masters, seed a top key — and get a verified progression chart with pin stacks per door and a key-by-cylinder proof. No sign-up. Nothing saved. Built by working Brisbane locksmiths on the same engine as our Masterkeying app.

This page stores nothing — no account, no cookies, no database. Leave and it's gone. Copy the link after generating if you want to keep a design.

How to use it

What it enforces

How to read the result

Key bitting schedule — every key with its six cuts. This is what gets cut. Pin stacks per door — for each cylinder, the key pin and any master pins in each chamber; a chamber with a single number is keyed straight. Progression proof — every key simulated against every door at the shear line. OPEN where it should open, blank where it should be blocked, and a red cell if anything is wrong (you shouldn't ever see one).

Limits of the free page

Twelve doors, three sub-masters, one change key per door, six chambers at depths 0–9, and no saving. No keyed-alike groups, no maison doors, no cutting register, no export. Those live in the Masterkeying app — projects that persist, unlimited doors, a cutting register that tracks stamp numbers, and a free account that lets you save a new system every month.

It's a design tool, not a locksmith. It doesn't know your keyway, your manufacturer's depth increments or your pin kit. If you're in Brisbane and want the system actually pinned, cut, registered and guaranteed, see master key systems or call 0404 159 369.

Designer questions

Is the master key system designer really free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, there's no sign-up, and nothing you enter is sent to us or stored anywhere. The trade-off is that it's deliberately capped: 12 doors, 3 sub-masters, one change key per door, and no saving. The Masterkeying app is the full tool — projects, keyed-alike groups, maison doors, a cutting register and saved systems.
Does it save my system?
No. Leave the page and it's gone. If you want to keep a design, use the "Copy link" button — the whole system is encoded in the link itself, so you can bookmark it or send it to your locksmith. Nothing sits on our servers.
How do I know the chart is correct?
Because the page proves it in front of you rather than asking you to trust it. After generating, it simulates every key against every cylinder at the shear line and shows the matrix. A system is only marked verified when each door opens for exactly its assigned keys plus the top key and stays blocked for every other key, every master pin is even and between 2 and 8, and no adjacent cuts break MACS 7. If no valid system exists for your top key, it says so — it never dresses up a broken chart as a success.
What rules does it enforce?
Unique bittings for every key; no cross-access (a change key never opens a door it isn't assigned to); MACS 7 between adjacent cuts on every key and across every pinned cylinder; master pins only in even sizes 2, 4, 6 and 8 (the pins a locksmith actually carries); minimum-chamber mastering so unmastered chambers stay keyed straight; and level-partitioned progression — each level varies from its parent only in its own chambers, which makes phantom openings impossible by construction.
Can I use my own top key bitting?
Yes — type six depths (0–9) and the designer builds the whole system down from it. We call it the van-key-bucket rule: any legal key can seed a system. If the key breaks MACS or is out of range it will tell you exactly which chambers are the problem.
Which end of the key is chamber 1?
The designer numbers six chambers 1 to 6 with depths 0 to 9 and treats them abstractly — it makes no claim about which end of your blank is chamber 1 or which manufacturer's depth spacing you're cutting to. Map the schedule onto your own key machine's convention and your lock brand's depth table before you cut anything.
Is this a substitute for a locksmith?
No. It's a design and learning tool. It doesn't know your keyway, your manufacturer's depth increments, your pin kit or your building. If you want a system that's actually pinned, cut, registered and guaranteed, that's what we do — see master key systems in Brisbane.
Can I link to this page or embed it?
Link away — that's exactly what it's for. Forums, training notes, course material, your own site: link to accesslocksmiths.com.au/master-key-system-designer. Please don't copy the code onto another site; link to the live page so everyone gets the same verified engine.
